Let me talk about REACH — because it's the biggest change to hit tattoo ink in a generation, and a lot of artists still don't fully understand what it means for them.

I've been making pigment since 1985, and I've watched this industry go from the back room to a global profession. REACH is part of that growing up. Here's the straight version.

What REACH Actually Is

REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals — it's the European Union's framework for what's allowed in products that go on and into the body, tattoo ink included. When an ink is REACH-compliant, it means no banned or restricted substances, every ingredient documented and traceable, manufacturing held to strict standards, and a pigment that's sterile and safe for skin.

In plain terms: somebody proved what's in the bottle, and proved it's clean.

Why It Matters Even If You're Not in Europe

The US doesn't have REACH-level ink laws yet. But awareness is only moving one direction, and I'd bet on REACH-style rules landing here too. The artists already running compliant ink won't have to scramble or reformulate — they'll already be ready.
