Tattoo Ink Blog - How Can I Find Vegan Tattoo Ink Options?

Let me clear something up about vegan tattoo ink, because there's a lot of confusion out there.

People hear “vegan” and think it's just a marketing sticker. It isn't. It's about what's actually in the bottle — and some of what's traditionally gone into tattoo ink might surprise you.

What Makes an Ink Vegan

A truly vegan ink has no animal-derived ingredients and isn't tested on animals. That matters because some inks have historically used things like bone char — charred animal bone — for black, gelatin or shellac (that one comes from beetles) as binders, and glycerin that can come from animal fat. You'd never know it from the label, and that's exactly the problem.

How to Actually Verify It

Don't take the word on the front of the bottle. Do three things:

• Read the ingredients. A real manufacturer lists them. If a company won't tell you what's in the bottle, assume the worst.
• Ask about the black specifically. Black is where bone char hides. Ask what the carbon source is — a good maker knows exactly.
• Look for real certification and testing, not just a leaf icon somebody dropped on the label.

Vegan Doesn't Mean Weaker

Here's the myth I want to kill: that going vegan costs you saturation or longevity. It doesn't. Our vegan pigments heal true and hold up for the long haul — that's the whole point of making them right. Vegan is about what you leave out, not what you give up.

Made In-House, and Made Clean

Same thing I say about safety applies here: we mix, mill, and fill our own ink under one roof, so we know exactly what's in it and what isn't. That's the only way you can promise something is vegan and actually mean it — not rebottle someone else's pigment and hope.

Straight Answers to the Questions I Get Asked

Is all tattoo ink vegan? No. Plenty of traditional inks still lean on animal byproducts — bone char, glycerin, gelatin, shellac. Always check the maker's ingredient and testing policy before you buy.

How do I know if mine is vegan? Look for an explicit vegan and cruelty-free statement from the manufacturer, not a leaf icon somebody stuck on the label. Every ink we make, we confirm is 100% vegan.

Vegan or cruelty-free — what's the difference? Vegan means no animal-derived ingredients. Cruelty-free means no animal testing, at any stage. You want both, and ours is both.

Does vegan ink fade faster? No. Made right, vegan pigment holds its saturation as well or better — you're leaving out the junk, not the performance.
